Valenciaport data indicates a decline in exports

Valenciaport closed the first month of the year with a traffic of 390,008 TEU, a figure that represents an increase of 1.69% compared to the same month of 2017. This growth is fundamentally based on the behavior of imports of full containers, which, with 62,177 TEU they experience an increase of 23.49%. Likewise, empty containers increased by 23.09% to 102,017 TEU. However, exports decreased by 4.72%, a record that the Port Authority of Valencia values ​​as negative and which suggests that there may be some imbalance in the export sector, especially the Valencian one, as trade indicators recently pointed out. outside of Spain. Full traffic, for its part, decreased by 11.68%.

Regarding total traffic, during the month of January the three ports managed by the Port Authority of Valencia (Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia) have channeled 5,562,805 tons, 5.23% less than Email Data in the previous year. This decrease is motivated by the negative evolution of liquid bulk, which, during the first month of the year, has decreased by 63.04%.

Foreign trade of general merchandise experienced an increase of 4.43%, with a total traffic of 1,882,648 tons. Specifically, imports increased by 16.89% to 801,264 tons due to the good records of countries such as China, which increased by 15.75%; Italy, which grows 25.24%; France, which increases by 25.26%; Türkiye, which rises 38.20%; and the United States, which amounts to 11.48%. For their part, exports fell by 3.21%, with a total of 1,081,384 tons. In this area, the performance of countries such as Italy (+71.06%), the United States (+16.92%), and Algeria (+0.91%) stands out. Global traffic closed the month with a decrease of 15.91%.

Vehicle traffic increases

Non-containerized general merchandise has registered an increase of 28.08% at the end of January, with a total of 1,0774,465 tons. This growth is due to the registrations of merchandise such as steel products, which, with a movement of 224,000 tons, grew by 8.62%; and automobiles and their parts, which, with a movement of 134,000 tons, advanced 46.14%. If we break down this data by units, the ports of Sagunto and Valencia have handled 60,755 vehicles, 18.09% more than during the month of January 2017. Likewise, ro-ro traffic grows by 39.81% to a total of 847,426 tons.

Solid bulk, for its part, also maintains its growth path during the first month of the year. Specifically, in January 170,255 tons were handled, 9.59% more than the previous year. In this heading, merchandise such as cereals and their flour stands out, which, with 117,000 tons, grew by 27.68%.

On the contrary, liquid bulk decreased by 63.04% to 126,929 tons. This data is mainly due to the behavior of natural gas, which has not made any movement this month, which represents a 100% drop (182,000 tons were handled in January 2017). On the contrary, traffic of chemical products grew (+93.19%) to 37,000 tons; and diesel (+49.68%) up to 33,000 tons.




Likewise, general merchandise in containers decreased by 7.32% to a total of 4,168,873 tons. In this section, the results of merchandise such as processed construction materials stand out, which, with 377,000 tons, decreased by 3.20%; rest of merchandise which, with 197,000 tons, increased by 15.09%; and chemical products, which, with 159,000 tons, grew by 7.18%.

Passenger traffic

During the month of January, a total of 47,984 people used the port of Valencia for their maritime trips, a figure that represents a growth of 13.26% compared to the records obtained in January 2017. The good evolution of regular line traffic , which grew by 22.28% to 43,529 passengers, explain this data. Regarding cruise traffic, during the month of January, 4,455 people (-34.20%) have called in Valencia on board one of the three stops that have been made at the site.

Traffic by countries and geographic areas

The five countries that have channeled the highest volume of merchandise through Valenciaport during the month of January have been: Spain, with 677,000 tons and an increase of 14.99%, China, with 568,000 tons and a decline of 2.98%; Italy, with 450,000 tons and an increase of 35.23%; United States, with 420,000 tons and an increase of 5.03%; and Algeria, with 289,000 tons and a decrease of 16.98%. By geographical areas, the Mediterranean and Black Sea area stands out with 1.57 million tons and an increase of 7.60%; and that of the Far East with 823,000 tons and a decline of 8.53%.
